Summary Report:
The “sacred fountain” of Santa Cristina is a very unique construction from the late neolithic period. It almost looks like a modern construction and is astronomicaly aligned to the moon and the sun. Every 18.5 years, the light of the moon illuminates the waterpond at the bottom of the “fountain”. Also at certain times, the sun creates a spectacular “lasershow” at the edges of the stones. The late neolithic creators of this site certainly had very advanced engineering skills and a profound knowledge of astronomical events.
Researcher Arnold Lebeuf did extensive research about the astronomical alignments of this site, especialy about the lunar-calender alignment and wrote some scientific whitepapers about the topic.
Some researchers propose that the moon played an important role in ancient cultures,. The ancients observed how the moon affected the tides and by tracking it alongside of the sun, they developed calendars to predict agricultural rhythms. Even today, farmers plant seeds during certain phases of the moon cycle. It is believed that moisture is pulled toward the top layer of the soil and improves germination. But could there also have been more profound reasons to track the moon- and the sun- cycles in ancient times and why was the sacred fountain of Santa Cristina built with such an elaborate construction technique?
