Summary Report:

This mysterious object can be found in the Egyptian Museum of Kairo. Its official catalogue number is “JE71295“.

The Sabu disc is an object from the 1st dynasty, ca. 3000 to 2800 B.C., which was found in 1936 in the Mastaba “S3111” in the north of the necropolis Sakkara. It has been found in the tomb of the ancient Egyptian official Sabu, after whom the object is also named. The object is 61cm in diameter and has a maximal hight of 10 cm. In the center it has a hole with a diameter of about 8 centimeters, with a socket whose height is approximately equal to the depth of the bowl. From the slightly raised outer rim, three “wings” or “lobes” are rotationally symmetrically folded inward, toward the central bore, with the outer rim preserved in the form of narrow arches that connect the non-folded portions. The object is made from schist, but it s important to mention that schist is a layered stone, which easely breaks.

Walter B. Emery noted in his excavation report: “No satisfactory explanation has yet been found for the strange design of this object.” Visually, the foreign body resembles a steering wheel, a kind of airplane propeller or a ship propeller. In the documentary “The secrets of the pyramids”, produced by the BAM (Builders of ancient Mysteries) research team, engineers ask science to take a look at this thing from an engineers point of view because the object strongly resembles a part of a technological device.

The function and meaning of the carefully crafted natural stone vessel is still unclear to this day, but what original purpose could this object once have had and what is such a modern looking thing doing in a 5000-year-old tomb? How was it built because, as already mentioned, the material of which it is made of (schist), breaks easily. Will we find other parts in the future, that may complement the sabu disc and therefor give a more complete picture about the original intended usage or purpose of the disc?
