Summary Report:

The bare mountain peak of El Fuerte is located near Samaipata, an Indian village in the Bolivian jungle, a five-hour drive from the city of Santa Cruz and chiseled niches and mysterious grooves are the main attraction of that place.

In the book “Zeichen für die Ewigkeit”, Erich von Däniken writes about El Fuerte: “… Its top resembles a pyramid, and in the middle of it run two parallel, 38-centimetre-wide and 27-metre-long, dead-straight grooves from bottom to top. The whole thing looks like a ramp pointing towards the firmament. The highest point of the “ramp” is a roundel cut into the rock floor: a circle two metres in diameter and triangles and rectangles carved out on the circular line…”. In the same book, Erich von Däniken writes about how an ancient culture might have used the place: “… Every seemingly senseless ruined site served a cult, and cults usually go back to the gods. What cult was celebrated on El Fuerte? Imagine a model aeroplane, not made of heavy gold as in Colombia, but of light wood. This aircraft model is placed at the lower end in front of the “ramp” of El Fuerte and anchored. Now pull a rubber band from the bottom up to the roundel with the gouged triangles and squares. Then, at the great feast, a priestly command sufficed and someone broke the tightened rubber band with an axe blow. With that, the aeroplane model was catapulted skywards, towards the gods…”.

There might be another explanation for the elaborate structures at El Fuerte. When Erich von Däniken and the engineer Josef Blumrich, who for many years was head of NASAs project design division, took a closer look at the stone structure of El Fuerte, Joseph Blumrich suggested that it might have been a metal processing plant.

To this day, no one realy knows the true original purpose of El Fuerte and many questions still remain, but the theories of Erich von Däniken and Joseph Blumrich sound plausible if you take a closer look at the details of the site.
