Summary Report: 

Göbekli Tepe is a prehistoric site 15 kilometres northeast of the southeastern Anatolian city of Sanlıurfa in Turkey. It is located on the highest point (750 metres) of the elongated Germus mountain range. It has been excavated since the mid-1990s as a long-term project of the German Archaeological Institute. So far, only about 1.5 percent of the site has been uncovered during this work. A complete excavation is not planned. Archaeologists have so far excavated seven circular stone structures on Göbekli Tepe in Turkey. These consist of T-shaped pillars, hewn from one piece, which are decorated with animal reliefs and abstract pictograms. Archaeologists believe that these signs do not represent writing, but perhaps universally understood sacred symbols. Archaeologist Klaus Schmidt interprets the T-shaped monoliths as “the embodiment of mysterious beings”. Geophysical investigations suggest that over 200 more pillars in about 20 circular complexes still lie beneath the ground. The individual pillars are up to 6 metres high, weigh up to 20 tonnes and were fitted into bases cut out of the rock. Archaeological dating has shown that the site dates back to the 10th millennium BC.

In the Book “Wozu sind wir auf der Erde”, Erich von Däniken writes: “… Why did the original builders erect the monuments on an impassable rocky plateau and not near a water source? The building site must have been a sacred place. Here – and only here! – something unimaginable had happened. I suspect Göbekli Tepe was the place where our progenitor Abraham had his encounter with extraterrestrials. After all, Abrahams birthplace is only 15 kilometres away from the present-day city of Sanliurfa. His encounter with the otherworldly visitors is described in detail in the “Apocalypse of Abraham”. We learn how two “heavenly beings” took the young man Abraham above the earth. Abraham specifies that the two were not human beings, for they “did not have the breath of a man”. If beings do not breathe like humans, they can hardly have been humans. Even the current mayor of Sanliurfa, Zeynel Abidin Beyazgül, told the Turkish newspaper Milliyet: “The origin of Göbekli Tepe has cosmic roots.” (Source: In Mystery No. 4. July, August 2022)”.

Many questions surround the site of Göbekli Tepe. Did our ancestors witness something extraordinary at that place which inspired them to build Göbekli Tepe? What do these T-shaped Pillars which are identified as “beings” represent? Why the huge effort to build this massive site? And why was the site finally filled in again?
