Iron beads found in Native American burial site are made from meteorite iron

The meteorite beads were discovered in 1945 in an grave of the Hopewell-Culture near the Town of Havana in Illinois, USA. The Hopewell-Culture is known for sprawling ceremonial earthworks and for objects made of non-local materials such as mica. Scientists now discovered that these beads were made from iron of the so called “Anoka”-meteorite which fell to Earth more than 700 kilometres from where the beads were found.
