Summary Report:

The band of holes is located in the valley of Pisco in Peru, near the small town of Humay (only few hundred meters from the “Hacienda Montesierpe”). Professor Dr. Janvier Cabrera determined, that for centuries locals have called the ribbon “la avenida misteriosa de las picaduras de viruelas,” the mysterious road of pockmarks.

Not much is known about this kilometers-long and around 24 meters wide band of holes in the barren dessert but in his tireless search for unknown mysteries, Erich von Däniken explored this mysterious tape of holes and wrote about it in his book “Reise nach Kiribati”: “… 500 meters above the hacienda we stood in the front row of holes. The first hole I stood in front of had a diameter of one meter and was just as deep. Right next to it was a second, a third, a fourth hole, really a strip of holes that unrolled endlessly from us into the distance. All the holes were empty, containing nothing but a bit of crumbled debris, and they were just there – as was my first impression from the old photos, as if pressed into the earth by a rolling pin with precise patterns. Up the slope, we followed the trail of holes, and with each bit of elevation gained, the soil holes changed. Placed on their line, they were more and more often bordered with stones. Sometimes we saw small walls piled around them. Finally, when we reached the ridge of the mountain, every hole was walled. In an endless row, the holes nestled against the slope of a valley wall like the skin of a reptile. It seemed as if pioneers of the Indians had dug themselves into the ground here at the same time on command, one next to the other on a bandwidth of 24 meters. There would have been room for one man in each hole…”.

The most important and urgent questions are how and by what means was the band of holes originally created and what purpose did it have? This questions are especialy important because many mainstream theories have already been disproved. For example, the holes could not have been graves because no memorial stones, remains of bleached bones or grave goods were found. The holes also make no sense as boundary markers because the band of holes runs so irregularly through the landscape and besides that, it would have been much easier to simply place small boundary stones than to dig meter-deep holes in the hard desert soil. This mystery is indeed very puzzling.
