The so-called Bimini Road, also known as the Bimini Wall, is an approximately 800-meter-long structure of limestone blocks in shallow water off what is now the west coast of North Bimini Island, which is part of the Bahamas.
In 1957, during a visit to Bimini, Franco-American inventor Dimitri Rebikoff, a pioneer in the development of underwater technology, was alerted by local fishermen to large stone blocks located in the coastal waters to the west of North Bimini off Paradise Point. Rebikoff was the first to suggest a non-natural origin for this structure. This assumption was popularized in September 1968 by marine biologist and Cayce devotee Joseph Manson Valentine, who investigated the formation, now named Bimini Road, in his search for relics of Atlantis together with Robert Angove as well as with apnea diver Jacques Mayol.
Bimini Road itself was mentioned specifically 30 years before it’s discovery. In 1938, American mystic “the sleeping prophet” Edgar Cayce predicted the discovery of a road that led to Atlantis with the following words: “… A portion of the temples may yet be discovered under the slime of ages and seawater near Bimini… Expect it in 68 or 69”. Coincidence? Bimini Road was indeed first investigated in 1968!
In his Book “Aussaat und Kosmos”, Erich von Däniken also writes about the discovery of the Bimini-Structures: “… In 1972, the UNESCO Courier reported on sensational discoveries made by American archaeologist Manson Valentine and underwater explorer Dimitri Rebikoff just beneath the coasts of the Bahamian islands of Bimini and Andros. They came across underwater settlements with walls 70 and 250 meters long. The structures, which are more than six meters underwater, extend over an area of 100 square kilometers! There are parallel walls over 600 meters long! The weight of a single five-meter stone has been determined to be 25 tons. Scientists of the University of Miami give an age of 7000 to 10 000 years B.C. – however measured with the C-14-method! So, according to the previous archaeological data, when the underwater facilities were built, the pyramids of Giza could not have been constructed yet, the Sumerian Gilgamesh epic had not been writen yet! Rebikoff is convinced that the Bahama discoveries, once subjected to thorough research, will far surpass all the imagination they can inspire today. Some foundations reach down to a depth of about 80 meters!…”.
The supporters of the assumption of an artificial character of the Bimini Road point to successes of own field research. Thus, after ten underwater expeditions, the first of which took place in 1974, the American English professor David Zink expressed the conviction that the assumed megalithic components of the site were aligned by humans. Anthropologist and underwater archaeologist William M. Donato and Atlantis researcher Greg Little (a psychologist with a PhD) are also convinced, after numerous expeditions, that the formation could not be of natural origin. According to them, they also found other, previously unknown fragments, which were probably exposed by Hurricane Wilma in 2005.
There is a, still unresolved, great debate among scientists and experts whether the bimini road structures are of natural or artificial origin. But if the structure are realy man-made, it s clear that the structures most have been built before the sea level rose. But what might these strange structures be and what might have been their originaly intended purpose? Is there a connection to other ancient structures that can be found below sea-level like for example the Yonaguni-monument and others?
