Summary Report:

The Pantelleria Vecchia Bank Megalith is an anomalous artifact of uncertain origin, located on the Pantelleria Vecchia Bank in the Sicily Channel between Sicily and Tunisia, at a depth of 40 meters underwater. The megalith is a large block of sedimentary calcirudite limestone from the late Pleistocene age, measuring 12 meters long, and weighing 15 tons. The megalith contains three holes with similar diameters, which are partially filled with barnacles and other crustaceans. One of the holes, with a diameter of 60 centimeters, visibly extends all the way through the stone.

The megalith was discovered by Emanuele Lodolo (of the National Institute of Oceanography and Experimental Geophysics in Trieste, Italy) and Zvi Ben-Avraham (of Tel Aviv University) in 2015 during a high-resolution seafloor mapping survey on what was once an island called Pantelleria Vecchia Bank in the Sicilian Channel, located about 60 kilometers south of Sicily. This island was submerged during a flood 9,500 years ago, after the Last Glacial Maximum. And even before this time there was supposedly a land bridge between todays Italy and Africa.

The two discoverers, Emanuele Lodolo and Zvi Ben-Avraham wrote the following in their study: “This discovery provides evidence for a significant Mesolithic human activity in the Sicilian Channel region.” And Emanuele Lodolo, additionaly said the following about their discovery: “Most likely the structure was functional to the settlement. These people were used to fishing and trading with the neighboring islands. It could have been some sort of a lighthouse or an anchoring system, for example.”. However, very little is known about the people who lived on Pantelleria Vecchia Bank in the Sicilian Channel some 10,000 years ago but the construction of the stone shows they were skilled workers, able to extract, cut and transport a huge stone.

Ancient submerged structures can be found all around the globe for example, the Yonaguni monument, the Biminiroad, Nan Madol, and many more. All these structures must have been built before the last ice age (around 10000 Years ago), before the sealevel rose. But how were the Stone Age people of that time able to accomplish such tremendous feats?
