Summary Report:

The Nazca Lines are a group of geoglyphs made in the soil of the Nazca Desert in southern Peru by people from the Nazca culture. Most Nazca Lines run straight across the landscape, but there are also figurative designs of animals and plants (see pictures in the galery). The combined length of all the lines is more than 1,300 km, and the group covers an area of about 50 km2. They were made by removing the top layer of reddish-brown iron oxide-coated pebbles to reveal a yellow-grey subsoil. Some of the Nazca lines form shapes that are best seen from the air (at around 500 m) and the shapes are usually made from one continuous line. There are other, very geometrical, shapes like Dots that are arranged like the punched cards of an old computer or a huge triangle with elaborate circles and lines that resemble a modern, technological blueprint. Beside the different lines, stripes and figures, you can also find cut off mountain tops, and electrical, chemical and geomagnetic anomalies as shown in the research projects of the Erich von Däniken Foundation.

In his Book “Zeichen für die Ewigkeit”, Erich von Däniken wrote: “… What on earth is Nazca? First of all, Nazca is mysterious, enigmatic, even eerie. Nazca is manageable and opaque at the same time. It is enchanting, seductive, logical and absurd at the same time. The message of Nazca is veiled and confused, every theory about it contradictory. Nazca is gigantic – not only in its geographical dimensions. Comparable to the Great Pyramid in Egypt, Nazca is one of the time machines to the human past. Anyone who gets closer to Nazca looks into a phenomenal depth. There also sparkles a mirror that flashes into space…” and in his first book from 1968, “Erinnerungen an die Zukunft”, Erich von Däniken wrote: “… To us, the 60 kilometer long plain of Nazca – seen from the air – clearly conveys the idea of an airfield. “And: “Is the assumption absurd that the lines were laid out to indicate to the “gods”: Land here?! Everything is prepared as “you” commanded!…”.

The open questions that still surround Nazca are countless like “Who built the Nazca-lines and structures? What was the original intended purpose of the scrape drawings in the Nazca desert floor? Where did the geometrical and technological knowledge come from?
