Summary Report:

The Gosford Glyphs, also known as Kariong Hieroglyphs, are a group of approximately 300 Egyptian-style hieroglyphs located in Kariong, Australia. They are found in an area known for its Aboriginal petroglyphs, just between Gosford and Woy Woy, New South Wales.

The carvings were first reported in 1975 by Alan Dash, a local surveyor working for Gosford Council who had been visiting the area for seven years without seeing the glyphs. He continued to visit the area for five years and saw new glyphs whenever he visited. Up until their discovery, the site of the glyphs was engulfed with sand and rocks, and was heavily overgrown by vegetation.

Among these hieroglyphs there are depictions of chickens, dogs, owls, stick men, a dogs bone as well as two cartouches that appear to be the names of kings, one of them Khufu, the name in the other cartouche is uncertain. There is also a carving of the ancient Egyptian god Anubis.

Thy glyphs are heavily debated in the scientific community and many scientists believe that they are a hoax. But some amateur Egyptologists claimed the hieroglyphs to be an authentic script that was created about 4,500 years ago, by Egyptians who sailed to Australia and engraved their story into the stones after becoming shipwrecked.

How did ancient egyptian hieroglyphs appear in Australia? Are they truely genuine and if they are, who carved them out of the stone? Was it possible at that time that the ancient Egypts could travel over oceans like the early Chinese (see informations about Thor Heyerdal who demonstrated in practice that ancient people could have made long sea voyages, creating contacts between societies.).
