Summary Report: 

The region around the town of Carnac in Brittany is home to the world-famous megalithic stone rows. Thousands of these megaliths were erected here in parallel rows up to 7000 years ago in the Stone Age. Across the landscape, they once stretched probably possible up to 8 kilometers in some cases over a dozen rows.
What these huge rows of stones were erected for is still unclear today. Astronomical references are suspected as well as “cult places”.

However, some 1250 kilometers away from Carnac in the Czech Republic, there are similar avenues of stone not far from the village of Kounov. They were first documented and described in detail in 1934. According to this, there were 2239 stones in about 15 rows here at that time, laid out in an exact north-south direction on an area of about 11 hectares. Today, only 1500 to 1700 of these stones remain.

The avenues of Kounov are smaller than those in France. But here in the Czech Republic, one is also faced with a mystery as to why this complex was once built. So far it is not even known who laid these rows of stones. It is also unknown when this happened. But here, too, it was suspected early on that it might have had something to do with astronomical observations.
