Summary Report:

Chandravalli is a prehistoric archaeological site in the Chitradurga district in Karnataka, India and the Chandravalli Caves are a very strange and bizzare place. Chandravalli (translated as moon shaped) was known as Chandanavati, name attributed to the king as this place was once ruled by Chandrahasa (king of Kuntala). In the area, there is also a split rock that, from it s shape, resembles a crescent moon. This rock might have given the place it s name.

The size of the caves are estimated to be around six million squarefeet. The caves are a wild, mazelike mix of different architectual and historical building styles. There are megalithic elements mixed with brick- and plaster- walls and there are also many structural elements that seem to make no logical sense because they are in narrow niches, arranged in strange angles or simply do not seem to allow any logical explanation at all. Many passages are very narrow and normal sized people have to crouch and squeeze through very small doorways. In the whole Chandravalli area, there are also other very strange structures, temples and buildings that, like mentioned before, don t realy make any sense because they re placed in almost impossible and inaccessible locations or there is no logical explanation on their once intended usage.

Indian researcher Praveen Mohan was on site to conduct a detailed investigation of the mysterious caves and found, in addition to all the facts already mentioned, some old archeological records which date the site to the iron age (at least 3200 years ago) and that during an excavation, a part of a sarcophagus-style object has been found at the site.
